Mike Manko-Bauche has been clearing off the Souris River for the past few years so that people can skate on it, and he’s looking for volunteers to help out this year.

“I used to live in Ottawa for a few months and they've got the canal they shovel off,” Mike Manko-Bauche said. “It's more of a kind of a bigger effort over there, but it's nice to see people out just kind of skating around."

Manko-Bauche has some advice for anyone wanting to help out.

“Dress, warm in no time you'll be warm though. After shoveling it doesn't take long to get warmed up, but make sure your fingertips are covered. Just bring a shovel, if you got one of those steel shovels that works even better.”

Anyone can show up and help out.
