With daytime temperatures for the next few days expected to be above the 32° mark, and overnight lows staying above 16°, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Weyburn, Estevan, surrounding areas, and much of southern Saskatchewan.

"Everyone in the population can be affected by heat," says Natalie Hasell a meteorologist with Environment Canada. "Especially when we are talking about warning criteria now involving two-day events."

Environment Canada is advising people to watch for signs of heat illness, including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. They also recommended checking on older family members, friends and neighbors to ensure they are cool, and drinking water.

"Drink plenty of liquids, in particular, water, maybe something with electro-lights, avoid things like coffee and alcohol," says Hasell. "Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics so they actually make your body get rid of more water even though you are drinking."

The temperatures are expected to dissipate slightly throughout the weekend, however, temperatures and heat concerns could return early next week.
