The 117th SARM Annual Convention and Trade Show begins this morning. This is the first time that Norm McFadden will be able to attend in-person as the Reeve of the RM of Weyburn.

“I’m looking forward to that in itself just to see people face to face and the networking that goes on,” McFadden said. “All the all the previous ones were virtual and there are learning curves and you're doing that stuff too, and they were alright, but, uh, yeah there's nothing compared to in person meetings."

Things begin today at 10:45 a.m. with an address from Don McMorris, Provincial Minister of Government Relations., followed by Rural Municipal Administrators' Association President, Guy Lagrandeur and SARM President Ray Orb. Later this afternoon there will be a presentation on the new SaskLander app.

On Wednesday, Premier Scott Moe will address the delegates at 10:00 a.m., followed by the bear pit at 10:30 a.m. with the provincial cabinet. The delegates will hear an update from Tim Brodt, President of the Rural Crime Watch Association at 1:40 p.m. The agenda continues with a message from Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization at 2:15 p.m.

On Thursday things begin at 9:00 a.m. with an address from NDP Opposition Leader, Ryan Meili. At 9:15 a.m., delegates will hear the latest update on securing and bettering broadband in RMs across the province.

“I’m just looking to get chatting with people and see if there's something we can do that's going to save us some money, or you know, do a better job, or we're always looking for innovative ways to do things, that'll save us some money for sure.” Said McFadden.

He added that the part of the event he is most looking forward to is the tradeshow.

“They bring in equipment that all the RMs are currently using and undoubtedly there will be some new things out there that maybe some of us haven't seen before.”
