A house fire on Barber Crescent in Weyburn Tuesday night had one family scrambling for safety.

The Weyburn Fire Department was on the scene of the fire just after 10:30 p.m. The building was a duplex. The family in the unit where the fire is believed to have started were able to get out without any known injuries. There was no one home at the time of the fire on the other side of the duplex.

Crews fought the fire from both sides, as well as the roof, with the fire department's ladder truck deployed to get firefighters onto the structure to attack the fire from the top.

While friends and family comforted those who lived on the affected side of the duplex, bystanders helped the fire department and police get the belongings of the family on the other side out of the building before they could be damaged by water from the fire-fighting efforts, or possibly due to the fire itself.

The fire department confirmed the intense heat from the fire resulted in some exposure damage to homes in the area. At this time there is no word as to the cause of the blaze.
