The Weyburn Police Service provided an update about the armed robbery that happened in the city last Tuesday.

“A very dangerous situation,” described Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype. “Fortunately, nobody was injured. In relation to that incident, I can say that we do have an adult male in custody, and has been charged with robbery, disguised with the intent to commit criminal offences, as well as possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes.”

The incident took place in the early morning hours last Tuesday at the 7-11 store on the east side of the city. The suspect is said to have been flashing a knife, and claiming to have a gun. They demanded the clerk hand over cash, and the store employee complied. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of money and items from the store.

The Weyburn Police Service received assistance from the RCMP K-9 unit, and a suspect was taken into custody a short time later.
