Two men managed to stay out of prison during sentencing in Weyburn Provincial Court Tuesday.

Tristin Barmann was sentenced to a 15-month jail term to be served conditionally in the community for an incident in Regina where he was found to be in possession of over 70 grams of cannabis and 5 grams of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. Barmann was also ordered to serve 80 hours of community service and attend an addiction treatment facility.

Also sentenced on Tuesday was John Young. He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry during an incident in which he and several other masked man entered a home and conducted a brief assault on the homeowner. Young was ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge and received one day imprisonment plus time served.

Sentencing against Tracy Nelson was to take place on Tuesday, however the judge decided he needed more time to make his decision. Nelson was charged after crashing a pick-up truck into a tree this past August while under the influence, wounding himself and a passenger. The truck started on fire while passenger Levi Thirsk was trapped underneath. Thirsk sustained serious injuries from the accident, including a fractured femur, which was extruding from his leg when EMS arrived on scene.

Thirsk and his mother made a plea to the judge to keep Nelson out of prison, stating both young men made a mistake that night in August and have both been changed forever by the incident. The judge reserved his sentence until March 25.
