Throughout the weekend leading up to Halloween, those who didn’t wish to attend a haunted house had another option – there was an Escape Room set up at Weyburn Comprehensive School.

“It was a really big success, actually. We had groups booked into every time slot,” said Savannah Pohl, Organizing Committee member and SRC Treasurer.

She added there were 24 slots, with options for groups ranging from 3 to 10 people. Pohl said the average group had five to six people. In total, around 120 people got to enjoy the experience.

Pohl said the theme was “Mad Science”.

“It was like a science lab that they were let into, and when they were in the room, that’s when they found out more clues,” she explained. “So it was like just a time machine and it was like their future selves.”

The event was held as a fundraiser for the students at the Comp to hold another Breaking Down the Walls event next year. They raised approximately $1,200 at the escape room, which ran for just five days.

Breaking Down the Walls offers an opportunity for students to connect to each other, creating avenues of greater compassion and understanding amid the student body.

Pohl said it was an event worth fundraising for.

“It’s like a really great opportunity to meet new people that you’d never talked to before, and just getting to learn their story and what makes them who they are,” she said.

She added that there is a good chance the SRC will hold another Escape Room again in the future.
