Today was the second day of Blow Away Hunger, as this year, the Golden West radio stations, AM 1190, Magic 103.5, and BIG 106, were on location at Praire Sky Co-op for two days.

"We've partnered up with the Prairie Sky Co-op for a number of years now, in support of the Weyburn Salvation Army Food Bank, and it's always been a one-day event," said Station Manager Cameron Birnie on Wednesday.

"This year, because of an increase in demand in our community, we wanted to broaden the scope of our event, so we're doing it for two days. We're accepting food and cash donations on behalf of the Weyburn Salvation Army Food Bank, at the Praire Sky Co-op Food Store, and we'll be broadcasting live from there from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday this week," he added.

"People can give in many different ways. They can make a food donation, whether it's even a few cans, or a non-perishable food item, they can also make cash donations in any denomination that they're comfortable with," said Birnie. "At the end of the day, every little bit matters, and every little bit helps, and the need is great in our community right now, so we really just want to encourage everybody to come out and help in any way that they feel comfortable with."

"During the Christmas season, we are super busy," said Jennifer Lorinczy of the Salvation Army. "We do hampers, we do adopt a family, we support the community in so many ways and we can only do that with the support of other people. We can't run our programs, we can't run our food bank, we can't do our Christmas hampers without the support of people that are able to support us."

With a $2,500 meat donation on Wednesday morning from Western Prime Meats, the donations rolled in for both days, filling two full truck loads with food donations, and a final cash donation total of $7,955.

We'll be making the draw for the snow blower in the morning.
