Big news on the safety and human resources training front today as the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada announced it will be joining forces with Enform – the safety training association for the upstream petroleum industry.
The two organizations are wasting no time cementing the union, either. The merger will be effective on April 1.
The move makes sense on the surface. I hear business executives talk all the time about providing “one-window access” to their clients.
It seems to me combining the human resources services the council does with the safety training Enform does will serve their clients – the men and women working on the frontlines of the oil and gas industry – well.
In a Monday morning press release announcing the merger, Cheryl Knight, the council’s executive director and CEO, said as much, noting the two organizations have worked side-by-side for many years out of the same office facilities.
“This move just makes sense and the timing is right,” Knight said in the press release.
The challenge facing the two organizations now is how to make the merger as painless as possible for the staff and the clients they serve.
That will likely prove more difficult than the work that led to the merger of the council and Enform in the first place.
