[VIDEOS] Weyburn Is Bigger Than Bullying!!!

Educating youth and spreading a positive message against all bullying is the main focus of Ryan Laird, Canadian country music singer-songwriter who recently visited most of the elementary school students in Weyburn on Pink Shirt Day and shared his Bigger Than That movement with them as well. Way back in 2007 Pink Shirt Day was created in Canada after a ninth grade student in Nova Scotia was bullied on the first day of school for wearing a pink shirt. So two boys at the school distributed 50 pink shirts to some of their classmates to peacefully stand up against bullying.

The transition to pink as a sexually differentiating color for girls occurred gradually, through the selective process of the marketplace, in the 1930s and 40s.

In fact, a Ladies' Home Journal article in June of 1918 said, "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."

Bullying is still a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and definitely online. Luckily, the Pink Shirt Day campaign is growing bigger each year and makes a huge impact on Canadian youth, parents and teachers.

Laird is actively involved in the Bigger Than That movement, performing motivational message driven music concerts at schools with the initiative to inspire youth to dream big and never allow negative influences to stand in the way of success and happiness in their lives. The program has visited over 250,000 youth across Canada and is still going strong!

Laird received recognition and media attention across The United States and Canada in December of 2008 after spending his life savings on a very brave and courageous publicity stunt that captured the attention of one of the biggest country stars in Nashville, Tennessee. (Full story in Video below)
