Weyburn is a community with rich diversity and, this weekend, that fact will be celebrated with the annual Culture Days.
"We're pretty excited about Culture Days," said Arts and Culture Director for the City of Weyburn Alice Neufeld. "It's a local, provincial and national celebration of culture and it aims to increase the awareness, accessibility and participation of all Canadians and cultural activities in their communities."
It's going to be a jam-packed weekend, with events happening throughout the city over the course of three days.
On Friday, students in Weyburn will be heading to Signal Hill Arts Centre for a 3D Felting workshop, which will also feature an adult class Friday night at 5:00.
"Participants will learn the basics of 3D wet felting," said Neufeld. "They'll make a felted wool project and at the same time learn this exciting art form."
Friday night will also feature a "Mural Workshop" at Signal Hill Arts Centre with Regan Lanning from 7:00 until 9:00. Registration for both events is required .
Saturday will host the bulk of the celebration with dream catchers, henna tattooing, Ukrainian entertainment and egg demonstrations along the boardwalk. At 2:00 p.m. there will also be the official ceremony and unveiling of the Boardwalk Banners.
When you are done at the Boardwalk you can head to the Library, where they will be holding their annual Cultural Fair from 1:00 until 4:00.
"People will set up different tables from their country," said Adult Programmer D'Arcy Megenbir. "They'll have their customary, traditional clothing on, they'll have different facts and displays and artwork from their countries as well as a sampling of food from their country."
Along with the different vendors, there will also be a children's area set up where kids will make a variety of instruments from different countries.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a public reception at Signal Hill Arts Centre for the art display entitled "Canada As We See It."
