Construction of the Weyburn Recreation and Culture Centre is well underway and the next steps are taking place.

Framework for the building began recently as crews from Wright Construction are working diligently to meet the deadlines.

"It's been pretty active around the site and things have stayed on schedule," Andrew Crowe, Director of Leisure Services said. "You're going to start seeing some steel being erected and a building start to take shape. You're going to get a feel of how big of a facility this joint space is going to be."

Work officially began in March and things have progressed as expected through the first two months. Aside from a few weather delays here and there, the project is on schedule for its original opening date in summer of 2021.

Crowe said it's been so far so good at the site of the future WRCC.

"For substantial completion, we're looking at June 2021 with an opening date just in time for the school year of 2021. As we speak, everything is on schedule and we should have no problems meeting those dates."

It will be exciting to see the Rec and Culture Centre slowly assemble over the coming months. The City is reminding folks to be mindful of the work being done when near the work site or in Jubilee Park.
