The Weyburn Police Service has been asked to investigate the sudden death of a man who was in custody of the Outlook RCMP on the weekend.

Just after midnight Sunday, a man who was being held at the Outlook RCMP detachment in connection with an impaired driving investigation became unresponsive. EMS were called, and the man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The request to have the Weyburn Police Service investigate is part of the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy. The WPS will look into the circumstances surrounding the in-custody sudden death of the 60-year-old man.

The RCMP have also requested the provincial Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.
