The indoor swimming season at the Weyburn Leisure Centre opens up on Monday, and like the outdoor swimming season, things will be a little different thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those who are interested in participating in the public swims, the lane swims and the senior swims at the pool must register in advance. The booking window opens up two days prior at 6:00 a.m., and you can book online up to 10:00 p.m. the day before the desired day of your swim. Those who don’t have access to booking online can also call the Leisure Centre during business hours to book in advance.

The doors will open up 15 minutes prior for the swim times, but people will not have to wait outside, especially with the colder temperatures of winter approaching.

“We do have the lobby open, and there is a kind of a zig-zag lineup where there’s six feet apart while you’re waiting in the lineup,” explained Tina Clay, the aquatics manager for the City of Weyburn. Hand sanitizer will also be made available for those waiting to enter.

Prior to entering, there will be the same COVID-19 screening questions as there were for the summer swims, and the temperatures of all patrons will be checked before entering the facilities.

Another difference from the summer swim will be the change rooms.

“The changerooms are open, however, we do ask that everybody come already dressed in their bathing suits in order to avoid congestion in the changeroom, and we ask that everyone be respectful and maintain physical distance,” Clay added.

Like the summer, everyone must shower before entering the pool, and everyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a person 18 and older, and those who are under the age of five must have an adult within arms reach at all times.
