The Annual Wheatfest was a great event to be at this past weekend according to Matthew Warren, Director of Leisure Services for the City of Weyburn.

"We had lots of great events for people of all ages," said Warren.  "The big thing for us was our Heritage Village days with local artists and local demonstrations," he added.

The Wheatfest started 21 years ago and is an opportunity for people to attend a number of events located around the community. The Heritage Village was the location of the Heritage Village days It was at this location where Blacksmithing, Rope making, Ice cream making and Butter making demonstrations were available. There was also a Steam engine, Outdoor oven, Fire truck rides, Homemade Pie and ice cream and BBQ.

Local artists Tylan Charlton, Lyndsay Bell and Lexie Tytlandsvik, De Tricky Feet Dance Studio, Emma hon Hagen, Chloe Gill, Karissa Hoffart and James Dionne were able to perform on the Friday and Saturday at the Heritage Village.

The Soo Line Historical Museum had a Bread making Contest on Friday and a family fun day on Saturday. The Family fun day involved performances by local Magician, Richy Roy as well as a petting zoo, balloon sculpting, a bouncy house, face painting, and games.

Signal Hill Arts Centre was the location of the Art fair and sale on Saturday.

Knox Hall hosted a Horticultural show and the Tommy Douglas Centre was home to a Robert Munch play performed by the Crocus 80 Youth summer theatre group.

Weyburn's Open Air Market was open on Saturday on the corner of Souris and 2nd St.

Behind any event of this nature, a team of dedicated volunteers is needed to make it work.

"We have great volunteers who work up there and they work hard all year to make sure those grounds are ready for that event," said Warren who is grateful for everyone who helps make the Wheatfest a success. "Our staff volunteers make sure we had a great event for people of all ages," he added.

The City is already looking forward to next years Wheatfest and is asking for volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering you can contact the city directly at 306-848-3217.
