The Young Fellows Club of Weyburn is looking for feedback from community members who have taken advantage of the Don Mitchell Tot Lot.

This year marks the Weyburn Youngfellows' final installment of $125,000 to the City of Weyburn. The five-year commitment was made in 2015 to rebuild the paddling pool at Don Mitchell park.

Weyburn YF Treasurer Chad Ror says they put out a call on Facebook for stories and photos to celebrate the summer staple for Weyburn families.

“We're trying to be more active on social media, trying to be out there, so I'm always trying to think of ways to engage with the community,” he said. “Not trying to pat ourselves on the back, but just to educate the community too on where their dollars are going, right.”

The Tot Lot is a staple of free fun for families with young children.

“I've seen people have picnics there and birthday parties, and whatever, so with the new spray park being there, it's even busier. I remember as a kid going and always playing on the basketball lot because it was a nice flat surface and a good place to play,” said Ror. “The tot lot is kind of a staple in the community, right in the centre, and I think a lot of people utilize it properly and it's a really good place.”

He said his family also utilizes the park throughout the summer months.

“You drive by there on a nice hot, summer day and it's usually packed right full,” he said.

He added it makes him feel really good to know he is part of the organization that helped to bring forth so many past and future memories for Weyburn residents.

Some of the comments in the social media thread include such sentiments as they enjoy bringing their grandchildren/nieces and nephews or their own children to the park.

One parent had this to say: "We love it!! Love the addition of more picnic tables last year and live the shallow, closed off area for babies/toddlers! Thanks Young Fellows!"
