Imagine capping off your date night, or a family fun evening, with a twinkle tour at River Park. The new initiative by Weyburn Tourism will be sure to attract visitors to Weyburn throughout the upcoming holiday season. Twila Walkeden with Weyburn Tourism says River Park Sparkles can make it happen.

"Weyburn Tourism wanted to enable organizations and businesses and individuals to really get into the holiday spirit, so we're excited to launch a new event in Weyburn called River Park Sparkles, and we want to see our River Park, our beautiful park within the city, sparkle during the holiday season," said Walkeden.

She said the campsites will be adorned and available for tours between December 2 to January 4.

"Each individual or business get free range to their assigned campsite in River Park, to decorate in the spirit of the holiday season," she explained. "This is all free. It doesn't cost anybody anything. We're just wanting everyone to get into the holiday spirit and make this beautiful campground in the summer beautiful in the holiday season."

She said it will likely attract visitors to Weyburn.

"You can imagine when all of these displays are lit up in River Park, everyone from Highway 39 is going to get a great view of it, and we think this is going to bring people into our community and have it be a tourism attraction," she said.

While it'll be a tourist attraction, it'll also be something fun to do for locals as well.

"We welcome people to travel from miles away and visit the site, either walk or drive around, we're going to have assigned days in which you can do both, we want to be inclusive to all abilities, so certain days you'll be able to walk, and certain days you'll be able to drive, and then maybe you can make an event of it, go out for supper, go see a Red Wings game," she said.

In order to accommodate all abilities, Monday to Thursday be designated driving days and Friday to Sunday be designated walking days through River Park.

"We encourage visitors to be careful as slippery conditions may exist," she noted.

While booking a campsite for the holiday season isn't something one normally does, there are only 26 sites, so book early to get yours.

"It's certainly gaining a lot of attention, so we're hoping it's going to sell out," Walkeden expressed. "For information about the event or to reserve your campsite, give us a call at Weyburn Tourism, 306-842-4738. When you register, we'll give you information on when your setup dates will be."

She said while most businesses will decorate using their branding colours, or their logos, they are encouraging organizations and individuals to join in on the fun.

"So if you've got a theme that you want, that's fine," she noted. "There's ample power in each site, and we're asking everybody to use their imaginations and the sky's the limit. We think it's just going to be an awesome way to celebrate during December."

She noted they welcome people to use their imaginations.
