Weyburn Scouts are getting closer to reaching their goal to attend a global conference.

The Weyburn Scouting Association are sending a group of five, including scouts and leaders, to the World Scouting Jamboree in 2019. The Jamboree happens every four years with around 60,000 people in attendance. The event takes place in West Virginia. More information on the event can be found HERE.

"Last night we had a wonderful boost from some wonderful people at the Weyburn Kinsmen Club. They presented us with a cheque for $1,000 for the five of us, to raise money for our World Jamboree trip," explained Allen Klassen, Weyburn Scout Leader.

Originally there were more people planning to attend the jamboree but some dropped out for personal reasons.

The Scouts are also planning a bowling bonspiel fundraiser on February 25.

"It's a fun tournament, kind of like a bingo bowling event. It doesn't matter your skill level," said Klassen. "They're going to get you bowling left-handed, right-handed, through your legs."

So far, the scouts have raised around $7,000 of the $25,000 total needed to attend the jamboree.
