City Council discussed upcoming water projects at Monday night's meeting.

The Clean Water and Wastewater Fund grants provincial funding for related and approved projects. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Relations approved the following projects for funding:

Water Standpipe Upgrades
Water Treatment Plant Filtration System Upgrades
Water Treatment Plant Security Upgrades
Water Main Replacement - Government Rd. from 1st Ave N to Souris Ave (670m)

The purchase of a pump and valve for the water treatment plant was also discussed.

"As a measure of protection and a measure of safety for the City, if there were to be a failure at any time during the next little while, in effect it takes us 8 weeks to get a replacement pump in," says Roy Hardy, City Manager.

The pump and valve is a smart purchase to avoid an emergency situation. Weyburn is looking forward and anticipating a pump failure.

The new pump will be a replacement pump, however, it won't be installed just yet.

"After the completion of the reservoir expansion at the water treatment plant to avoid the potential risk associated with working on both projects simultaneously," says Laura Delanoy, Weyburn's Assistant Engineer. "The work will be planned to take place over the winter months when the demand on the water treatment plant is at it's lowest."

The reservoir expansion is well underway and now Weyburn has, even more, water projects to help the City produce the cleanest and safest water possible.
