This July, you can enjoy Weyburn's River Park with William Shakespeare.

The Crocus 80 Theatre is performing its first-ever Shake It Up in the Park on July 14 and 15.

The play is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing - with a Saskatchewan twist.

"Really when you think about it, (Much Ado About Nothing) is the original romantic comedy," said Crocus 80 Theatre's Steven Wilson, who wrote the adaptation.

"With the Canada 150 being celebrated this year, we thought we'd kind of put a spin on it and adapt it to modern days."

The original play is written about a soldier coming home between battles during war; Wilson captured the heart of Saskatchewan with his adaptation by modifying soldiers to hockey players who are coming home during the offseason.

On first weekend in May, the Crocus 80 Theatre will be holding a casting call. No experience is necessary and volunteers for stage management and set design are also be needed.

Admission for the plays in River Park this summer are free. July 14 will be an evening play with July 15 will be a matinee.
