After struggling with his own mental health concerns, Constable Jeffery Bartsch of the Weyburn Police Service is hoping to help others in the police force.

Officers and mental health experts were in Gatineau this week to talk about mental health within law enforcement and Const. Bartsch was one of those officers.

"What are we doing in Ontario? what are we doing in B.C.? It's a place to get together for that," he said.

The conference is in its third year and is a joint effort by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs.

Batsch said police forces are beginning to recognize the issue of mental health. His advice to everyone: mental health is nothing to be ashamed of and to talk to people if you are struggling.

"Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of, it's just like saying my dental health, everybody has it, it's there every day whether you chose to brush your teeth or not, we all have mental health."

Const. Bartsch will be sharing more of his experience at the conference with Discover Weyburn when he returns.
