The Weyburn Movie theatre, owned by Landmark Cinemas which was bought by Kinepolis Group NV in December has been closed since the end of November.

Weyburn residents have concerns and asking when the theatre will reopen or even if it will reopen.

In an email this week to Discover Weyburn, Bill Walker, CEO, Landmark Cinemas gave an update on where they are at with Weyburn's theatre.

"We are still not definitive on our plans for Weyburn and have accepted that the closure will likely continue into the spring."

"We empathize with the community and do not want to see the theatre close but need to fully understand the investment required."

Weyburn residents and business owners have been in contact with Landmark Cinemas offering to buy the movie theatre.

"We have received inquiries to purchase the theatre or help in repairs as needed that demonstrate the communities support for the cinema."

The heating system broke down in November leading to the theatre closure.

It was reported earlier in 2017 that there would be an investment in the Weyburn theatres seating.

This story will be updated as details come in.
