The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings have just wrapped up the harvest on their canola crop that they had been growing on a quarter section of land north of Weyburn.

The crop fundraiser had been in the works for a number of years before it finally came to fruition this past May when Jerry Mainil Limited helped by taking care of the spraying, seeding, and planting of their crop.

"So we rented a piece of land up north just before Cedoux and we've had a lot of people from the community and a lot of organizations and companies from the community that donated their time, their equipment, and everything else to help us out with respect to harvesting what we have on there," shared Jamie Blunden, Red Wings President. "The idea is to sort of raise some funds for the organization and in this case, we've been able to do so because of the generosity of all of these people."

Feel free to listen to Blunden's thank you message below for all of those that were involved in this Field of Dreams fundraising project for the Red Wings.

"It was just a tremendous input from the community and as the Red Wings organization we're very appreciative of that so this is going to go a long way with respect to helping us out during the season," Blunden expressed.

"That quarter section of canola I believe was 120 acres that we seeded so they were going to harvest that today and we'll see where we're at with the yield on it."

Blunden stated that all of the funds that are raised will be going back into the Red Wings organization to help with the high costs of driving the whole team out to their games and any other expenses that may need to be covered throughout their season.

Grainbelt Transport donated the use of the semi.

"It worked out very very well this year and it's something we're certainly going to continue on with if we have the opportunities to," told Blunden. "I know that the people involved in the community we've really asked them for a lot and they certainly stepped up to the plate. Without their input and without their generosity we wouldn't be in this position. So we'd like to do it again but it's all about the generosity that we have in the community so we'll see how that goes next year."
