police station 2

The Weyburn Police Service will have a new tool available to them, but it is one that they hope they will never need.

Officers are completing training on the proper use of tasers, according to Chief of Police Marlo Pritchard. "Barring illness, we should have all of our members trained by the end of the week."

The use of tasers is highly regulated and can only be used in specific situations, according to Pritchard, "protecting a member of the public, or one of our members. So, it's got a very, very high threshold before we can use it."

Officers will be equipped with them as soon as possible after training is completed.

Discover Weyburn will have more on this story for you Monday.
