The swearing-in ceremony for Weyburn's newest addition to the Police Service took place yesterday in front of Dignitaries, friends, family and community members.

Constable Vincent Leippy will officially take up his position with the WPS when he completes the training in Regina which starts Monday and runs for five months.

He said the training is a prerequisite but doesn't see it as an obligation.

"I'm looking forward to it, I'm eager to learn new stuff."

This is not the first time he has worn a uniform.

"I think I said it in jest when I was very young but I did seriously join the military so this has come full circle for me so I think one way or the other I wanted to serve, I just didn't know what capacity," answered Leippy when asked when did he first decide become a police officer.

Leippy joined the Military out of high school after graduating grade 12 in 2002.

"The regiment was the Royal Regina Rifles," said Leippy when asked who he served with.

Leippy has friends who joined the Police service in Saskatchewan. He said it is likely that this will be his last career having served in the military and construction.

"For Weyburn, it means we are adding to the safety of our City bringing in another member to our department," said Weyburn's Mayor Marcel Roy.

Roy praised the good work of the selection that the Police Board did in choosing Leippy to be the next new constable for Weyburn.

"As a former police officer, it is an honour to be able to swear in and be a part of the service swearing-in ceremony of a new officer, which I did many years ago."

"I think he will fit in just great for our community. He has gone through a very rigorous selection process that we do every time, and he was our selection. I am looking forward to having him on board and we will have him out on the street by summer." explained Marlo Pritchard, Chief of Weyburn Police

Pritchard said new officers are normally sought after when an existing officer quits.

The officer Leippy is replacing a constable who left and moved to Manitoba.

Leippy is looking forward to what happens next and also said that his sister, Drina just had a baby boy and he is looking forward to helping raise him in the capacity as his closest and only uncle.
