The Weyburn Police Service has received multiple calls about a threatening new scam.

There have been multiple calls to the Weyburn Police Service in the past week regarding scams, the most common being a phone call where the victim is threatened by the caller with arrest unless a certain amount of money is paid.

July 17:

  • The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a possible Break and Enter at River Park. Although entry was not gained, there was some damage to a window. Anyone having information about this is asked to contact the Weyburn POlice Service or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

July 18:

  • At around 5:30 p.m. the Weyburn Police Service received a report of a possible impaired driver. Although the police in Weyburn were not able to locate this vehicle it was later reported driving dangerously on HIghway 39 and evaded the RCMP in Estevan before the driver crashed the vehicle.  A local Estevan man was taken into custody by the Estevan Police  Service and is facing a number of charges including Impaired Driving, Dangerous driving, and Evading Police. 
  • At around 11:20 p.m. the Weyburn Police Service received a complaint regarding eggs being thrown at a vehicle. A short time later another complaint was received about the same activity. As a result of the investigation, two 17-year-old boys were identified as responsible and issued tickets for throwing objects at a vehicle. 

July 19:

  • The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a bicycle that was stolen from an address on 8th Avenue SE. The bike is described as a Black Eastern and Nitrous XSXSIV bike with bright yellow grips and yellow brake cable. 

July 20:

  • The Weyburn Police Service received a report of Mischief on a vehicle. The rear wiper was bent and the motor was damaged.

July 21:

  • The Weyburn Police Service received a report regarding an individual that was violating his Probation conditions. As a result of the investigation, the 26-year-old man was located and has been charged with violation of the conditions of his Probation Order.
  • The Weyburn Police Service received a call regarding two young boys who were no longer welcome at the rodeo grounds due to their behavior. They were located and left without incident and were banned from future attendance during the weekend. 

July 22:

  • The Weyburn Police Service received a report that a counterfeit $20 bill had been passed at the Weyburn Rodeo. At this time there is no information of who may have had the bill or where it originated. All merchants and citizens are urged to take an extra moment to assess the authenticity of another $20 bills that are received.

July 23:

  • The Weyburn Police Sevice received a report of two large dogs who had killed a neighborhood cat. 
  • At around 7:35 p.m. the Weyburn Police Service received a report of a suspected impaired driver. Although unable to locate the vehicle within the city limits, the RCMP encountered the vehicle just outside the city. As a result, a 26-year-old man is now facing charges of Driving While Over .08.
