Anyone that happened to pass by the Weyburn Police Service office yesterday around the noon hour would have noticed the various officers as well as Chief Jamie Blunden outside cooking burgers and hotdogs over a barbeque.

The free community meal was made available to anyone that noticed or heard of it and it was well attended by children and adults alike.

"So we did an impromptu bbq in front of the Police Station for anybody that was walking, biking, or driving by and saw us," told Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype of the Weyburn Police Service. "So we barbequed up probable 120 smokies and burgers and gave them out to people there. It was a good little impromptu community give back."

The food was made possible after the Weyburn Police held their annual golf tournament and had extra burgers and hotdogs leftover from the event.

The Deputy Chief said that they are always looking for opportunities to meet the community and give back in any way possible and he added that they hope to do more events like this in the future.

Both the Chief and Deputy Chief were out yesterday flipping the burgers and when all was said and done they had served more than 100 people.

They even went out to purchase more burgers just to make sure that nobody went away hungry.
