The May long weekend came to an early end for a driver in Weyburn early Sunday morning.

Police say they arrested a 58 year old motorist after someone called in a complaint about a drunk driver.

The suspect has been charged with Impaired Driving.

That charge comes as police are cracking down this May long weekend. A big focus will be on impaired drivers, with check stops locations throughout the weekend. "We're really reminding people that as they head out onto the roads, they really need to take care out there. They need to make sure that they're driving sober." said Tyler McMurchy, Manager of Media Relations for Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI).

However, McMurchy reminds motorists that alchol isn't the only driving issue. " They want to make sure that they slow down and travel in a speed that's appropriate for the road conditions and the weather. Buckle up, of course. And, you know, put down the phone."

According to SGI, there were 255 collisions, 2 deaths and 82 injuries on last year's May long weekend in Saskatchewan.

SGI says about half of Saskatchewan's fatal collisions involve alcohol.
