With a new location and their eye to the future, the Weyburn Humane Society is preparing for their annual spring garage sale.

The garage sale will be held at the Weyburn Curling Rink this year on Thursday, May 11 from noon until 6 p.m. and Friday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The move was prompted by the opening of Giant Tiger in the City Centre Mall where they used to hold their garage sales.

President Pam Arndt-Schick said the fundraiser is critical for the non-profit.

"It's very important because we are trying to raise money for our new shelter some day so it's very important," she said and added that the group is making "slow but steady" progress towards their goal.

Because of the location change, the Humane Society can no longer take donations over such a long period leading up to the garage sale. and there are a few limitations on what they can sell. Arndt-Schick said they will accept donations of anything that is in good resaleable condition except clothing, tube TVs, mattresses, car seats and extremely heavy furniture. Items can be dropped off at the curling rink during these dates and times:

  • Sunday, May 7: 12-5 p.m.
  • Monday, May 8: 4-7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 9: 4-7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 10: 3-7 p.m.

Arndt- Schick recommended anybody who has questions regarding the garage sale contact shelter manager and vice-president Colleen Morrice at 306-861-3634.
