The recipients of the 2021 WEYBEX Awards have now been announced by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

There was a live virtual gala that was presented by Prairie Sky Co-op this past Friday.

During the rigorous adjudication process, 12 finalists were selected for their excellent business strategies in five different categories.

The finalists were judged on their application and supporting documents, with strong attention to unique business achievement and engagement.

In the Community Involvement Award category, sponsored by Sask Energy, the recipient was the Weyburn Oilwomen Association.

"It feels incredible for us to win this award," expressed Jordan Szczecinski, Chair of the Weyburn Oilwomen Association. "We have worked really hard over the past couple of years to become a larger support for our community and to be recognized for those accomplishments and all the hours of hard work that our organization has put in feels really great."

In the Business Leader of the Year Award category, sponsored by Ramada & Canalta, the finalist was Don Shumlich, CEO of the Weyburn Credit Union.

"It's nice to be nominated but it was very unexpected," shared Don Shumlich. "We're really looking forward to the future, the economy bouncing back again, the community events that are coming up, and we're just so happy to be a part of it."

In the Golden Service Award category, sponsored by MNP, the recipient was Barber Motors.

"It feels good to be nominated and to be recognized by your peers in the business community," told Andy Barber, a Dealer at Barber Motors. "We've had our challenges in the last year with COVID but our people have really shined. Our staff are really a bunch of all-stars. We have a good team and the award really speaks for itself. When you surround yourself with good people and empower them to make decisions and do the right thing for our customers."

In the Business Hall of Fame category, sponsored by the Weyburn Credit Union, the inductees were Don’s Plumbing & Heating, RP Automotive, and East Wey Auto Body.

In the New or Expanded Business Award category, sponsored by Community Futures Sunrise the recipient was Fido’s Place Doggy Daycare & Training Centre.

The Business of the Year Award is selected from the winners of the following categories: Golden Service, Community Involvement, and New or Expanded Business. The Business of the Year Award is Barber Motors.

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce shared that they would like to congratulate all of the recipients, Business Hall of Fame Inductees, and finalists for the 2021 WEYBEX Awards.

Now they are looking forward and are excited to most likely be able to hold a much bigger in-person event next year.
