If you've always wanted to take part in a tree-planting event, next weekend is your chance. A 'Tree Day' is being held on Saturday, October 19th from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The City of Weyburn has partnered with the TD Canda Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation, and they're looking for 35 additional volunteers to help plant 150 trees in Weyburn's urban conservation zone, Tatagwa Parkway.

"They're just small little trees, like two-gallon, up to five-gallon, so 150 smaller trees," said Curtis Block, Parks Coordinator with the City of Weyburn. "The tree-planting location site is just off of Queen Street just north of Highway 13."

Block noted no special skills are required to help plant the trees.

"There'll be some holes already there, so when the volunteers come, we'll have the trees all ready, we'll have the topsoil ready, and I'll go through how to plant the tree properly, and then the volunteers can put the tree in there and backfill, and we'll have the water wagon there for watering the trees," he explained.

As TD's flagship volunteer and urban greening program, Tree Days provide TD employees, families, friends, and the community, the opportunity to volunteer and help build healthy, vibrant communities by caring for the local environment.

"Since 2010, we've planted over 300,000 native shrubs and trees around the country," shared Mantasha Alam, one of this year's Tree Day organizers.

"It's going to be a fun event, a way to connect with the community," he encouraged. "At the same time, it's for a great cause and we're looking forward to meeting everyone and making this go as smoothly as possible."

"It's a family event, and kids are more than welcome to come to join in," added TD Bank's Hardik Patel.
