Swords, spirits, and swine were enjoyed at the Weyburn Scouts Medieval Feast on Saturday. The first-time event was a fundraiser to help take four members of the 5th Weyburn Scouts to the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia in July.

The sold-out event featured a medieval-style feast of roast pig on a spit as well as dancing and sword fighting entertainment provided by the Regina chapter of The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), Shire of Sigelhundas. There was also a silent and live auction to raise funds, and a medieval stockade, where guests had to pay a "fine" to get out.

Troop Scouter Allen Klassen said the night was absolutely amazing, raising approximately $6,000 towards their $20,000 goal.

"Before the feast, we were at least three-quarters of the way there," explained Klassen. "I'm hoping this will have pushed us over the top."

The 14-day trip takes place from July 22 to August 2, 2019 and features scouts from all over the world. Three Venturer Scouts, Dominic Soles, Mathew Soles and Kendry Klassen, will join Klassen on the trip.

Klassen said the trip will be an experience of a lifetime for the scouts attending.

"They experience things that they will never, ever do again," shared Klassen. "They make connections, they meet people from all over the world that they can develop relationships with. They have a common role, common belief and common goals and the comradery is just bar-none."
