The Government of Saskatchewan has announced its commitment to investing more than $2 million for facility and infrastructure improvements in provincial parks in the southeast region.

“Our provincial parks are special places for many Saskatchewan families,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said.  “Park facility and infrastructure updates are a priority, so that we can meet the changing needs of our park visitors and ensure everyone has enjoyable trips to the parks for years to come.”

Upgrades scheduled for completion prior to the 2019 camping season in the southeast region include campground electrical system upgrades and renovations to the historic stone retaining wall near the chalet building at Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

"We are, actually, right now, in Fish Creek campground. It's closed for the season because we are doing some electrical upgrades to some of the sites, and also some much-needed paving," said Joan Adams, Park Manager for Moose Mountain Provincial Park. "So, we have a paving crew in there right now that's improving some of those interior roads."

She added they were also busy doing some fall work on the winter recreation trails.

"We just encourage people to come out to the park and get on some of those hiking trails," she added. "They're really nice."

Additional improvements will also be made to campsites, picnic tables, barbecues, trails, washrooms and other facilities, infrastructure and equipment throughout the southeast region.

More than $11 million will be spent this year improving and expanding Saskatchewan’s provincial parks. Planned improvements for 2018-19 throughout the park system are set to be complete before the 2019 camping season.
