The AGM for the Weyburn and District United Way took place last night at the Vimy Room of the Weyburn Legion.

Sabrina Kraft, President, Weyburn and District United Way, called the meeting to order just after 7 pm.

In her Presidents Report, she spoke on the highlights from the year.

"The Weyburn and District saw an increase of member agencies. We basically went from having about eight member agencies the year before to 13."

She said how they introduced the Concert Jam last year, a seven-hour concert with seven bands each performing for an hour.

"We felt it was a really great event, so we are excited to continue to improve upon it and make it an even better event."

This year Concert Jam is going to be on August 25th to launch the run-up to the Communithon. The Duck Derby will be the next day, August 26th.

The W & D United Way is also looking to build on the Communithon

"Communithon is our biggest fundraising event. It showcases the local entertainment, the schools are fantastic. They come out with kids as young as kindergarten, all the way to grade 12 to perform," explained Kraft and added they are the shining stars of the Communithon.

During the meeting, Sandra Alexander, Outgoing Executive Director, W & D United Way, gave her report for the last time as she steps down after being in the position for more than ten years.

Cindy Mack is the new Executive Director. She was present at the meeting and will be getting to know the position in the coming weeks.

The commitments to the member agencies amount to $96,000 for 2017 an increase of $250 from the year before.

The total raised by Weyburn's United Way for 2017 including the Communithon, campaign contributions and funds transferred from other United Ways was $117,709 an increase from $116,950 the year before.

Overall there was an $18,748 loss on the year.

Kraft is excited about the future of the city's Communithon and said they are in talks with the United Ways of Saskatoon and Regina to see what suggestions they have to help build the Communithon in Weyburn.
