As we head into the long weekend and the kids are out of school next week, many have booked their flights to somewhere warmer than here.

Christine Niemczyk with CAA Saskatchewan shares some travel advice for those flying the coop this winter.

“Know your airline's cancellation policy,” she said. “Some airlines may waive their fees and issue changes due to possible re-booking policies.”

She said in peak periods, there will always be risks for flights to be bumped, so it's important to check with your travel advisor on your options if that becomes the case.

“Just a reminder, in your carry-on case, take what you might need should you find yourself stranded at the airport or not being able to get to your larger suitcase very readily,” said Niemczyk. “Pack some light clothing should you need to find yourself in a hotel, and can't get to your luggage. Your luggage could be lost, things get re-routed, that happens.”

She added keep your medications in their original containers and keep them in your carry-on bag, especially if they're medications you can't go without.
