The Weyburn Police Service has charged a man with drug-impaired driving after a series of collisions Friday night.

"My understanding is there were three vehicles damaged before the call came in and the vehicle was stopped," said Deputy police chief Rod Stafford.

After a brief investigation, the man was taken into custody and processed through the police service's drug recognition expert.

"The driver was showing signs of being impaired by drugs as opposed to being impaired by alcohol," said Stafford. "We had a drug recognition expert working and they did their process that they're trained to do."

There are different kinds of drugs the police are trained to look for.

"They will identify through the method they use by testing, a class of drugs or a family of drugs," Stafford said."They have a series of broad indicators that if they exhibit signs of x, y and z, it may be from a stimulant category. That's all their training allows them to say."

Once urine analysis is complete, the drug may be found.

The man was released and will appear in court at a later date.
