Tim Hortons held their annual Smile Cookie week from September 17 to 23 with proceeds from sales going to local charities across Canada. Here in Weyburn, all the money raised was being donated to the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation.

On November 14, Tim Hortons presented a cheque to the Foundation for $7,095. C.J. Mainil is a board member for the Weyburn District & Hospital Foundation and was thrilled with the generous donation.

"It's an amazing opportunity to go towards our hospital — our new hospital. Every little dollar is amazing that the community has generously given to us," Mainil said. "$7,095 dollars for cookies is fantastic and we couldn't have done it obviously without the help and support from Tim Hortons."

Although it seems like just cookies, it's a huge fundraiser for Tim Hortons' all across Canada. Joanne Carisse and her husband Tom are the owners of the Weyburn Tim Hortons. She says it's one of the busiest weeks of the year.

"There's a lot of work. Pre-ordering of cookies and additional bakers that come into play and additional staff to make all those smiles on those cookies. It's very time consuming, but it's always a wonderful experience and everybody enjoys their cookies. I love it every year," Carisse said.

It's a fun week for everyone at Tim's with lots of money being raised for a great cause.

"The staff love it every year. People are asking for their cookies and we can hardly keep up half the time," Carisse said with a smile.

Helping out at the Timmy's this year for a few hours was Mainil and other board members with the Hospital Foundation. She says it was definitely an eye-opening experience.

"It was so much fun. Tonya [Dubiel], Melissa [Swayze] and I were here from 10:30 to 3:30 and it was so much fun," Mainil explained. "I definitely feel if anybody has some concerns with Tim Hortons, they should come be in the back and see all the things that are happening back there. It's a little bit more than just going through the drive-thru."

To date, the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation has raised over $22 million dollars for the new hospital.
