The new school year started last week and this time of year means the beginning of other organisation's programs.

The Family Place programs Mini-go program started today and other programs are starting next week with some changes.

"Last year, we ran Tuesdays and Thursdays, however this year we changed to a Monday and Wednesday program. Most of our programs have remained the same, just the day changes and there have been a few time changes as well this year." Chrissy Lohse, Program Coordinator, The Family Place.

The Family Place programs create opportunities for children to learn within a safe environment as well as provide times for parents to meet together.

"In the afternoons (Monday's and Wednesday's), we are going to run Smiles and Tears again at the same time of 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm," explained Lohse.

Lohse talked about the different programs, what's involved and the time changes.

One of the programs is called Creation Station.

"We're going to run Creation Station first thing in the morning from 9:30 am - 10:15 am this year. And this is a variety, mostly though it's kind of a spin off of our Ooey-Gooey class, so a lot of messy play, volcanoes, goop. A lot of fun stuff that children like and the children usually get to take something home as well so it's really fun."

Lohse mentioned the program Splish and Splash which has a big time change this year from 10:30-11:30 am.

"We're going to swim for about half an hour, play games learn a little bit of floating, gliding, just some basics and then afterward we will join together in the Sun Room usually and we have a snack before the kids head home."

Registration is available for these programs and all programs by the Family Place are free.

The Family Place is a non-profit organisation which relies on donations and fundraisers throughout the year.

Weyburn's Tim Hortons is currently running the Smile Cookies Fundraiser with all the funds raised going to The Family Place.

Last year over $6500 was raised through this event.

The next fundraiser for The Family Place is in November with the Festival of Trees.
