Detours are a traffic inconvenience, especially when a highway that runs through a city is closed for nearly four months. The inconvenience has been, arguably, worst for the residents of the area.

But it would appear there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Paving is finally in progress on Government Road in Weyburn.

Crews were busy working on pouring and steamrolling asphalt yesterday to temporarily repair the large sections of Government Road that were used to access the water main and sewer connections for replacement throughout the summer (photo by Marna McManus).

Director of Engineering for the City of Weyburn, Nader Keshta, stated at the last meeting of Weyburn City Council that this week it would be done, a promise the City is still saying will be kept.

The City issued a public statement thanking the public for its cooperation and understanding during this project.

The statement went on to say that Government Road will be open for public use throughout the winter and that milling and the final paving will begin in spring of 2019.
