Going to college can be quite expensive and for some the cost is too high for them to even attend.

Luckily, there is the annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament. This will be the 19th year for the golf fundraiser here in Weyburn, and this year they added two more tournaments. One took place in Estevan and the other was in Moosomin.

"Last year the tournament raised $17,000 which then was matched to create $34,000. We've recently added Swing for Scholarships in Moosomin and Estevan, so all three tournaments combined can bring in a lot of dollars for students," stated Dave Harazny, Manager of College Advancement at Southeast College. "It's very valuable for a student because it is expensive to take post-secondary education and we're really glad that everyone supports this event and our students."

All proceeds from the tournament are matched by the Ministry of Advanced Education through the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program. In the past three years Swing for Scholarships has raised over $196,000 for Southeast College students.

The entry fee is $125 per golfer or $500 per team of four people and it is recommended to register early as this event fills up quickly. Each golfer registration is eligible for a $35 charitable tax receipt as well.

"Registration early always helps," added Harazny. "We're hoping to have around 100 golfers, so the course is usually packed. It's a best-ball tournament, so golfers of any skill level can participate. We like to have a lot of fun and we have a lot of sponsors on different holes adding extra games, food or drinks. So it's just a fun day out on a Friday afternoon in support of the college and the students."

Golfers will enjoy 18-holes in best-ball format at the Weyburn Golf Club, a power cart, a full dinner, and a tournament gift. There will also be a 50/50 draw and additional prize raffles as well.

Tournament sponsorship is another great way to participate in this worthy cause. Hole sponsorship is $350.

"We're really grateful for all the support from the community and the individuals that participate. There belief in post-secondary education and our students is really important because the college is an important part of the community and this is a great way to support it," Harazny said.
