The high from October 17 has turned into a long low. Today marks one month since cannabis became legal in Canada and very few retail cannabis shops have opened.

Here in Saskatchewan, just 10 of the 51 permits have been issued, with the SLGA stating that more can be expected to be approved in the coming weeks. Of those 10 retailers, just seven stores have opened their doors for business. Here in Weyburn, both companies with retail cannabis permits are awaiting approval from the government before going ahead with business operations.

Discover Weyburn reached out to the SLGA, regarding the process and expected wait times for permits and business licesnes to be approved. The SLGA said in a written statement to DIscover Weyburn, "For retailers, they need to secure a location, meet zoning requirements, construct/furnish their store, hire staff, train staff, establish a supply chain and meet requirements for security and inventory management. Once retailers substantially complete those steps, and meet SLGA’s good character requirements, SLGA does a final inspection to ensure compliance before issuing the permit.

Something has to give. There is still no word yet on how much longer residents will have to wait.
