So far the amount of snow we've seen this year compared to last year is quite a bit less and, for this reason, our first spring runoff forecast is reasonably good for southern parts of the province.

According to Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister responsible for the Water Security Agency, areas in the south should remain right around normal.

"The vast majority of the province is projected to be near normal this spring." Cheveldayoff says. "The variable is the precipitation that may come in the future. We've just seen 10-15 cms in the last couple of days here in the province so anything can happen in the next number of weeks and we'll be looking at another large forecast in early March and that will give us a more accurate depiction of what we will be looking at in the spring."

Cheveldayoff added that communities in and around Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford will see a higher threat of flooding, as more snow has collected in these areas.
