Weyburn Scouts held an afternoon of fun at River Park this weekend hoping to interest any new recruits, especially some new leaders. They held a barbecue and offered kayak rides to anyone who was interested.

Scout Leader Allin Klaussen believes being a leader is a rewarding experience, as you get to watch the youth develop throughout the year.

"They learn so much; how to be good citizens, how to be outdoors people. In the scout troupe, we try to make the 'out' in scout mean outdoors, so we try to get them out as much as possible and we try to give them experiences that they wouldn't normally get at home."

He said they are especially in need of Beaver leaders and if they don't find qualified volunteers they won't have a Beaver program this year. Qualified Scout leaders must take online training and pass a criminal record check.

Anyone interested in Scouting or becoming a leader can get more information at their registration night on Tuesday at the Grace United Church basement from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
