The Riverwood development is taking shape since they began construction at the former Souris Valley Hospital site a year ago. Construction on the multi-family portion of the development has begun and their first show home is ready for viewing.

"We've started construction of our 36-suite condo building on Riverwood phase one," says Munir Haque, development manager for Riverwood Development Corporation. "It's a modular construction, so we have 57 modules on-site right now that will be positioned into place hopefully over the next week or two."

The weather has been a factor in stacking the modules and completing the building, as the crane only operates when the temperature is above minus 20 degrees Celsius and the wind is under 20 miles per hour. The sturdy modules were built in Boise, Idaho and shipped to Weyburn. Typically three modules make up a single suite. The smallest condominium is 1,073 square feet, while the largest is 1,600 square feet. The condo will have heated underground parking and will be four stories high. The condos are already 50 per cent sold.

There are around 12 houses out there now at various stages of construction. The lots are now fully serviced and in the next couple weeks four families will take possession of their new homes.

Riverwood's first show home is now available for viewing. Check their website for viewing hours. The show home is a 1,376 square foot two-story house with an unfinished basement and no garage, bringing the price point down by about $50,000. The show home and many of the other homes in Riverwood were built by Nicor Construction Ltd. of Regina, which is the preferred builder for the development. The lots are being sold by Century 21 Hometown of Weyburn.

There are still 50 lots available in phase one of the development. Phase two was approved in October by the City and includes 38 residential lots and one multi-family site.
