One of the biggest signs summer weather is here to stay in Weyburn, is the opening of the River Park Campground. Things got underway for the 2018 camping season on Monday.

Linda Prokott is the Parks Coordinator with the City of Weyburn. She said the prep work for the year is pretty much wrapped up.

“Camp stalls are good to go, getting the water turned on, and making sure everything’s ready for the campers who have started arriving this week,“ Prokott said when asked if there was any major work left to be done.

Camping at Rover Park can be done by booking in advance, and it looks as though the park has become a popular destination. Prokott explained the campground attendants have said the bookings for June and July are filling up, and they are already taking reservations for August. This could mean a busy park throughout the summer.

As for the cost, the rates were not increased by the city this year, after a fee comparison was done with similar campgrounds. This means a serviced site, intended for trailers and RV’s, would be $30 a night. A non-serviced site for tents would be $18 a night.

Prokott does remind visitors the fire ban is in effect for the park. This means the fire pits will not be made available to the visitors.
