The Radville Marian Health Centre expressed in a letter to the community yesterday that they are desperately in need of Registered Nurses right now.

The nurse shortage is a result of resignations, leaves of absence, and a province-wide nursing shortage.

The current shortage of nurses has limited the amount of time that the Emergency Room has been able to stay open and very soon they anticipate that that will result in the closure of the ER until they can recruit more staff to fill their void.

With only Registered Nurses being permitted to work in the ER it is essential that they recruit enough new staff before they can open fully.

In a consultation with a number of community leaders, staff, physicians, members of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and the Ministry of Health it was decided that as new staff are hired they would begin to open the ER in phases with a goal of consistent day of operation for the community.

They will continue to hire nurses to support the limited nursing staff in their Special Care Home and they have secured the services of a temporary contract nurse as of September 1, 2021.

It is a priority for the administration to ensure the Special Care Home becomes and remains adequately staffed and they plan to continue to recruit Registered Nurses to work in that home as well as their Emergency Room in the Health Centre.

They are currently looking to fill four full-time positions at this time and upon hiring the first Registered Nurse they will start to open the ER on a limited basis. With the second hire, they will be able to open for 12-hour day shifts and once all four Registered Nurses are hired they will be in a position to be able to open the ER on a full-time basis for the community.

The current staff have been working tirelessly to be able to continue to serve the public and the administrators will make sure to advise the community as they progress towards having the ER back up and running at full capacity again.

Local municipality leaders have made a request to meet with the Health Minister and MLA to share their concerns and to hopefully rectify the present situation as soon as possible. The meeting is set to take place in September.

They asked in the letter for the community to share this information and to reach out to any nurses that may be interested in working within their facility located in Radville, Saskatchewan.
