A Regina-based company was awarded the tender for the milling and asphalt work to be done on Government Road during Weyburn City Council last night.

The City received five bids for the work and accepted the lowest from ASL Paving Ltd., which was $332,407.20.

Director of Engineering Nader Keshta explained the milling is required because the road was designed as a highway in the 1980s, with a thickness of 76 millimetres. That has gotten even thicker over years of repairs, and crews had to dig through about 250 millimetres of asphalt to replace the sewer and water infrastructure between Coteau Avenue and First Avenue. The total area required for milling and paving is about 6,588 square metres.

The City's 2018 budget for the total project is over $1 million. Two-thirds of the costs of the project are being covered by grants.

The resurfacing work will take place between September 3 and October 31.
