The City of Weyburn might be ahead of schedule on the road work happening on Government Road with the water main and sewer line connection replacement, but the downtown light replacement project has been delayed.

The original schedule for installation of the new, retro-style character LED lights in the downtown core was supposed to be this week, but the delivery of the poles has been held up at the end of the manufacturer.

Prep work has now been complete for two weeks at the base of each light pole location all along Third Street and Souris Avenue, in anticipation of the delivery of new lights.

City Engineering Director Nader Keshta said the new timeline for the lights to be installed is now estimated to be during the last week of August.

He noted that, with the infrastructure already in place, the actual replacement of the new poles will not disturb business in the downtown core for more than a few hours at each location.
