The water is back on for residents of North Weyburn, and Weyburn Utility Board customers north of the city of Weyburn. A precautionary drinking water advisory is also in place for those residents.

It is a result of a water main break affecting the north service line of the Weyburn Utility Board.

Claude Morin, the Superintendent of Public Works and Parks for the City of Weyburn, said the PDWA was not a general one for the whole city.

“There was no PDWA for the city of Weyburn itself,” Morin explained. When we became aware of the water main break, and to make the repairs, we only contacted the hamlet of North Weyburn and the Weyburn Utility Board.”

The repairs were completed Wednesday, and the PDWA put into place for the affected residents only.

Morin stated when a PDWA is needed within the city itself, if it is a major situation, they will use the Everbridge Alert system and the local media to notify residents. For a smaller break affecting a small area, they handle the notifications differently.

“We would notify those residents that are immediately affected individually, house by house on the block where their service was interrupted because any PDWA’s that followed would just be very localized for the block where we had to depressurize the water main.”

The precautionary drinking water advisory is in place until further notice, as they are waiting for the results from testing of water samples. It is expected to take three days.
