A planned power outage by SaskPower south of Weyburn is scheduled for this afternoon. The outage is only supposed to impact a handful of customers and a few businesses.

AM1190 will be one of the affected and will subsequently be off the air from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Joel Cherry, a SaskPower spokesperson, says it's a planned outage that's necessary for repairs.

"It's a relatively small planned outage, but it's part of our regular routine maintenance. We're going to be working on some power poles to make sure we have infrastructure that can get reliable power to our customers," Cherry explained. "We want to make sure the work is done as safely as possible and some work you can't do without temporarily turning the power off. We have planned outages of this sort literally every day in the province."

Only six rural customers will be without power this afternoon, along with 14 oilfields. BIG106 and Magic103 will be operating off of low-power transmitters and will remain on the air during the outage.
